Variable Message Format, abbreviated "VMF", is a method of communicating tactical military information.

VMF is NOT a Tactical Digital Information Link.

VMF is a protocol defining how to send military data. A message formatted using VMF can be sent via many communication methods.

VMF is documented in MIL-STD-6017.
