Siding Spring 2.3 m Telescope
Appearance
The 2.3 m Telescope at Siding Spring Observatory is operated by the Australian National University. It was the first altazimuth telescope where the entire telescope building rotates for azimuth tracking (now common on many telescopes). The entire construction project in the 1980s was managed by the Observatories' own technical staff, and a large amount of the construction was also undertaken in-house. This has led to a slight "homemade" feel to the telescope, but means that most maintenance tasks can be completed quickly in-house.
