Subspecies

Why does this article say that no subspecies are recognised? There are two officially recognised (in Australia) subspecies (A. s. stimsoni and A. s. orientalis), and these are both listed in the Synonyms section of the taxabox. Has there been a recent publication that nullifies these subspecies? Smacdonald 04:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here at Wikipedia, the taxonomy we follow for all python articles is the one available through the ITIS online database (see reference in article). It is based primarily on McDiarmid et al. (1999) -- the source of the synonymy provided. Regarding A. s. orientalis, the aforementioned checklist follows Barker and Barker (1994), which does not recognize the validity of this subspecies. --Jwinius 13:03, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
