Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Header

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Deskana (talk | contribs) at 02:35, 11 November 2007 (Wikipedia is not bureaucracy, but at the same time, checkusers do not have the time to trawl through cases and spend 30 minutes on each case. lets be practical here. we want to reduce backlog). Does your request belong here?

This is the place to request sockpuppet checks or other investigations requiring CheckUser privilege. Checkuser is a last resort for difficult cases. Use other methods first. See suggested solutions below; or see Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets (WP:SSP).

Procedure

  • List your request using the Input box below. Choose one code letter that most closely applies to your request. No code letter, no check.
  • Wikimedia:Privacy policy does not allow us to make a check that has the effect of revealing IP addresses.
  • Indicate the usernames you suspect, using {{checkuser}}. Please do not use this template in the section header, as that makes it difficult to read the account names.
  • Include the diffs or links required for the code letter you have chosen.
  • Sign your request.
  • There are clerks to assist you and help with maintenance of the page.
  • For other questions, see the procedures page, clerk noticeboard, or this page's talk page.

Outcome

  • Responses will be brief in order to comply with Wikipedia privacy policy.
  • Due to technical factors, results are not always clear.
  • Check back regularly to see the outcome of your request. In most cases, any block or other action based on the outcome will not be taken by the checkuser-people or the clerks. Instead, you will have to do this yourself.
  • Closed requests are archived after several days.
