In football (soccer), a phrase used to describe a vital league game between two teams that are competing for a common goal. The term stems from the reasoning that the game takes on extra significance as a win would not only result in a team picking up 3 points, but their rivals collecting none (likewise, a loss would see no points collected, but 3 points accrued for their opponents) thus it can be said that winning the game is worth double any other.
