The Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) is a secure radio communications bearer system. Tactical Data Link 16 (Link 16) is a message standard that uses the JTIDS as its communications bearer. The Interim JTIDS Message Standard (IJMS) was the forerunner to Link 16 as JTIDS was developed before Link 16. NATO has adopted JTIDS as its Multi-functional Information Distribution System (MIDS).
