Shinpan (daimyo)
Appearance
Shinpan (親藩, Shinpan) is a Japanese term which denotes the status of a domain's ruler as a recognized kinsman of the Tokugawa shogun. While all shinpan were recognized as relatives of the shogun, not all relatives of the shogun were shinpan; an example of this is the Matsudaira clan of the Okudono Domain. The shinpan lords were also known as 家門大名 (Kamon daimyō).
