Virtual routing and forwarding
Appearance
Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) is a technology used in computer networks. This term is fairly generic, but it appears to have originated from the network equipment vendor Cisco Systems.
VRF technology allows multiple instances of a routing table to co-exist within the same router at the same time - because the routing instances are independent, the same, or overlapping IP adresses can be used (or re-used).
VRF technology is commonly found in the ISP marketplace, and may be associated with "carrier-of-carrier" network designs.
