In regards to the following line: "The column spaces of a matrix Z...", should the matrix variable used be A, as opposed to Z to fit with convention and also with the use of the lower-case a used to refer to the column and row vectors?


I don't find min(m,n) very clear can someone define this. Is it simply lesser of the two parameters? In any case it would be good to define this someplace.


m is the number of rows, n is the number of columns in the matrix. Since the matrix can't have more pivot positions than rows or columns, its rank can't be greater than any of these numbers either.

Split suggestion

I suggest splitting this article into Row space and Column space. I have already posted rough drafts of the two articles, and if no one objects I will change this article to a disambiguation page in a few days. Jim 21:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
