Freedom Tower
The Freedom Tower is a 1,776-foot tower 'under construction' in New York City. The tower will be on the site of the previous World Trade Center along with several other towers, which are all descending heights and are arranged in a circle to create a downward spiral illusion. Much controversy surrounds the radical building design.

Human hepatoma cells (HepG2)
HepG2 is a well-established and well characterised cell-line.It is widely used in lipid and lipoprotein research. The HepG2 cell line was established from a human liver biopsy obtained from a 15-year old Caucasian male from Argentina with primary hepatoblastoma. This human hepatoblastoma-derived cell line, HepG2, has been shown to express many differentiated functions of a normal human parenchymal cell. It is well documented that these cells synthesize and secrete most of the plasma proteins expected from a normal human liver.

He belived that Super Andrew was beneath him and he didn't want to do the final movie of the series so they named it Super Andrew 4- "Where's Andrew ?" Country Bumpkin Publications
Our inspirational leader, Margie Bauer
In the words of one of her daughters, Margie is ‘a very holistic and healthy person’. She works incredibly hard – at night, weekends and on holiday - but balances that with meditation and yoga.
Looking at it chronologically, we start when Margie lived in the small South Australian country town of Keith in the 1980s.
She wanted her two daughters, Shyla and Tory, to wear beautiful smocked dresses. Finding that they were not only rare but also expensive, she decided to learn how to make them herself – a quality many will recognise in Margie. Pleased with the results, she was soon teaching others how to smock and before long, she was traveling and teaching, developing patterns, writing books, training teachers and developing a mail order service for the people she had converted.
It was in this tiny town of Keith that Margie dared to stage the first Beating Around the Bush convention where she encouraged some of the world's best tutors to lead the invasion of students from all around the country, and indeed from overseas, to a place most had never heard of.
What's more, she convinced the locals to get right behind her and accommodate, feed and entertain the visitors and dress up their town for the occasion. That first 'Beating Around the Bush', with its 1000 visitors on Market Day, is still talked about.
Margie had faith in her vision and pursued it relentlessly but it could not have been achieved if she had not inspired others to have faith in her. She has always been able to win the support of colleagues, friends and family.
Country Bumpkin is Margie’s family in more ways than one. Margie wrote the first book with her sister. Her mother, Helen, was there in the early days, helping with subscriptions and anything else that had to be done. Shyla and Tory packed magazines and helped at shows from the age of ten. A nephew, Sam, worked at Country Bumpkin for 4 years. And not many nieces or nephews escaped the photographer – most have been models in the magazines.
Friends have always been there. Margie has not only benefited from their loyalty and talents, but in many cases has helped them recognise and develop those talents. Her very first photographer for the first book was a friend, Randal Sach. Others have been asked to help out with a job for a week or a month and have become long serving employees and loved and trusted friends. And we know that Margie’s loyalty to friends and family reaches into areas that we don’t generally see but should acknowledge.
It’s Margie’s special flair that has been crucial in the successes she has recorded. Her ability to recognise style and good design, to take an idea from a vision to reality on the glossy pages of one of her magazines, to see that the world is ready for an A-Z series – all the visible signs of Country Bumpkin are the result, directly or indirectly, of one person’s vision.
The glorious photography that we all admire is a lasting example of Margie’s flair. Because this is the ‘face’ of Country Bumpkin, she has found one of the best photographers in the world, Andrew Dunbar. For photography, she concepts the idea, chooses the sets and locations and art directs all the shots- even persuades Andrew to follow her to remote and challenging places such as Kenya, Northern India and Iceland.
These trips have produced some of the most memorable photographs for Country Bumpkin Publications. Who but Margie would have dared take the exquisitely smocked and embroidered dresses of Julie Graue, Susan O’Connor, Kris Richards and others to these third world locations where dust, mud and torrential downpours were rife.
These expeditions were also moving experiences. As a result of them, Margie has been able to help an orphanage in Africa for children who are HIV positive, buy books for a school in India, provide funds for an Indian leper to have a prosthetic leg, and take books and medical provisions to Tibetan monks in exile.
These philanthropic deeds are not unusual – Margie is constantly offering bundles of books and magazines to charitable organisations, encouraging people to knit beanies for children with cancer or jumpers for oil soaked penguins.
And so, looking back to the early days at Keith, we can see that not a lot has changed!
Today at Country Bumpkin, teaching is an important aspect of the company’s activities. On any day of the week, you will see happy faces and busy needles taking advantage of some of the best tutors in the country in the surroundings of the world’s most beautiful shop.
That first little book of instructions for beginner smockers was the forerunner of Australian Smocking & Embroidery. An offspring in 1993 was the world's most beautiful needlework magazine, Inspirations. Now there are subscribers to the magazines in more than 60 countries.
The famous A-Z series, which has sold over 2.2 million copies worldwide and has been translated into eight languages, continues to instruct embroiderers in a variety of techniques and each one has become a bible in its field. Country Bumpkin also produces the world's most beautiful books and so far there are over 15 titles. To see the A-Z series of books please click here... To see the range of Country Bumpkin books please click here...
In fact, Margie scarcely gives her staff time to draw breath between projects! The fledgling mail order catalogue has grown into an incredible business and the introduction of the Country Bumpkin website in 2000 has made countrybumpkin.com.au a one stop needlework shop for needleworkers all over the world.
Country Bumpkin was founded on generosity of spirit, simplicity of language and passion for the beauty of all needlearts. Every product Country Bumpkin produces is imbued with these qualities.

Ana's Children
Ana's Children is nonprofit serving marginalized children and adolescents internationally; offering a cost-effective, innovative and comprehensive approach to helping those less fortunate. More information can be found on their website [www.anaschildren.org]
== What we believe: ==
Mission:
Our mission is to provide abandoned, impoverished, abused, or otherwise marginalized children and adolescents with material and emotional support in order that they may become healthy, productive members of society with a well developed sense of self-worth.
Values:
Every child should be treated with respect. They all deserve adequate food and shelter; to be raised in a loving environment -- free from emotional, physical abuse and exploitation; to receive an education; and access to supportive adult role models.
Beliefs:
Ana's Children has been started and is supported by a diverse group of people.
Aside from our mission and values, we share the following beliefs:
• Our choices matter. Our choices carry the capacity for great harm and great good for those around us. They affect us each individually and we are each responsible for our choices. Ultimately, we become our choices.
• The personal choices we make are demonstrated by our actions and furthermore, are reflective of our natures; therefore, we champion acts of justice, love, fairness, mercy, humility and patience.
• Mankind is meant for good. We consider it an aberration that mankind makes bad choices, but we can each work individually to change this—by working to change our choices. By individually seeking good: we can bring mankind closer to its purpose.
== Programs: ==
Our Family Assistance Program
Our Family Assistance Program works with impoverished children and their families in Bucharest, Romania. The current Romanian social services are unable to meet the full needs of millions of poverty stricken Romanians – consequently survival relies heavily on private organizations like Ana’s Children. It is not uncommon to see families of six to ten people living together in a mere ten by fifteen foot room. The children of these families are often forced into begging to support the family; preventing them from consistently attending school and thus perpetuating the cycle of poverty. Ana’s Children’s Family Assistance Program is working to change this.
The Soap Street House
The Soap Street House is a transitional home for homeless, abandoned and orphaned children. Ana's Children has been offered a 30 year lease on a home in a suburb of Bucharest. We will not be paying for this lease (as it was generously donated) but the home will need work before it can be opened. We hope to move 25 children into the home sometime in 2008. These children will come from the four to six thousand homeless children in Romania. These children will then receive in addition to basic care: counseling, mentoring, and tutoring. We hope that by rescuing these children from a life on the street; and providing a loving, supportive environment in which they can learn and grow; we will better equip them to function in an adult society and thus help break the cycle of poverty and despair. We hope that the Soap Street House will be the first of many such houses funded by Ana’s Children.
