Individualized Education Program
An IEP is created for any student (age 2.9-22) who is found to be elligble under his/her state's elligibility standards. An IEP typically outlines the following items for each student: Current Performance Level, Accommodations necessary in class, which subject areas are impacted by the disability, goals and objectives to be achieved during the course of the IEP (1 year or less), Standardized testing accommodations, transportation services, schedule modifications, service delivery with necessary personnel, parent's concerns, team's vision statement, and any other pertinent information found necessary by the team. This can include a health plan or a behavior plan for some students. An IEP must be accepted and signed by a parent or guardian before any of the outlined services may begin. The IEP is never set in stone. Any member of the team may call a meeting at any time to edit the IEP. Many things may be added or subtracted. The parent/guardian must again sign and accept this ammendment in order for it to take effect. Parents/guardians need not sign any paper work when it is initially proposed. They have 30 calendar days to take the paper work home for their consideration.
