In mathematics, in the field of dynamical systems, the existence a Markov partition is a particular property of a system. Such a partition shows that, at a coarse level, the deterministic dynamic system resembles a discrete-time Markov process.
This is a property of expanding endomorphisms or Anosov diffeomorphisms of compact Riemannian manifolds. Markov partitions appear, for example, in dynamical billiards.
