Crime Classification Manual: A Standard System for Investigating and Classifying Violent Crimes, authored by Ann W. Burgess, Robert K. Ressler, John E. Douglas, and Allen G. Burgess is the standard text used by the FBI for classifying violent crimes. It has also been adopted by many law enforcement officers outside the Bureau. It is similar in structure to the DSM. The first edition was released in 1992 and a second fully revised edition followed in 2006.
