2007 Shanghai Masters

The 2007 Shanghai Masters is the inaugural event of the Shanghai Masters tournament. Taking place between the 6th and the 12th of August 2007, with the final to be held on the latter, it contests the top 16 snooker players in the world along with another 16 qualifiers.

The tournament currently takes place at the Shanghai Grand Stage, Shanghai and is the first ranking event of the season.

Notable happenings

• Ronnie O'Sullivan withdrew from the event due to back problems that prevented him from travelling or playing.
• With all the expectation Ding Junhui losing out in the 2nd round to 2nd seed Graeme Dott. During the match He is on 73 on the way to a maximum when he misses an easy black, then deliberatly hits the white with his cue in frustration. Doing this left enough points for Dott to win the frame and match as he gained 7 points for the foul, but he missed an easy red and left it over the pocket.
• Matthew Stevens going 4 - 0 down to Stephen Maguire, but taking the next 5 frames to win 5 - 4.
• Dominic Dale dying his hair Blonde half way through the tournament because he saw the style in a barbershop in Shanghai.

Qualifying for the Shanghai Masters took place at Pontin's Prestatyn, Wales from 26 to 29 June 2007.
