Dr. Joseph John Thoder Jr. is currently the Chairman of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine. He was born January 25, 1956 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. His parents are Joseph John Thoder Sr. and Vincenzina (Rosati) Thoder. His father was the administrator of Gracedale Nursing Home, where a tower stands in memorium, and his mother a homemaker. Jospeh was the middle child of three, his sisters Lisa Close and Marilyn Perkins still live in Bethlehem today.
Graduating from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science in chemistry in 1977, he attended Temple University School of Medicine (Philadelphia, PA) in 1982. Upon completing his internship at Episcopal Hospital, he began his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Temple University Hospital.
