Fred Durst photo

Hi there, Sourcecode! Can you please tell me how you determined that the image Image:Fred-Durst.jpg is in the public domain? I can't see any mention of it at the site you mentioned [1]. Thanks! --Diberri | Talk 14:58, Sep 12, 2004 (UTC)

Contrary to popular belief, an author (or photographer, artist, etc.) does not have to explicitly copyright his/her work in order for it to be copyrighted. That is, copyright is implied unless the work is expressly placed in the public domain. So unless you can find a notice that the image is in the public domain (or is already licensed under the GFDL), Image:Fred-Durst.jpg cannot be used on Wikipedia. --Diberri | Talk 16:09, Sep 12, 2004 (UTC)

I have added Image:On-The-Road-manuscript.jpg to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. As Diberri noted above, the absence of a copyright notice does not necessarily mean the image is in the public domain. Taco Deposit | Talk-o to Taco 20:15, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Eon.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:Jack-Kerouac.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Jack-Kerouac.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG 13:40, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
