Modular addition
Modular additions are usually side and 2nd story additions that are pre-fabricated at the facilities. General characteristics of modular home apply. For 2nd story modular addition existing house should have sound stricture as modular rooms are 30%+ heavier the same stick-built. Modular additions are built in the facility, brought to your site and “dropped” by crane on the new location. You have to have general contractor to supervise the project as there is always some work to tie new rooms into existing house.
Even those it’s assumed that modular additions are less expensive then traditional stick built it’s rarely true when you compare square footage. Yes, you would generally get more wood and better insulation plus benefits of controled environment but total cost of the contraction would be about the same.
