Hi Performance FileSystem, not to be confused with HPFS or Hierarchical File System, is a file system used in the HP-UX operating system. It is a variant of the Unix File System.

The first 8 KB of every HFS file system contains the file system’s primary superblock. Superblock contains general information about the file system’s size, usage, status, and configuration. Perhaps most importantly, the superblock contains pointers to all the other HFS metadata structures in the file system.
