Egisto Tango (born Rome November 13, 1873; died Copenhagen October 5, 1951) was the conductor of several premieres by Bartok, including The Wooden Prince and Bluebeard's Castle. His career was launched in Venice and he conducted at La Scala and the New York Metropolitan Opera before accepting the job at the Budapest National Opera (1913-1919). From 1925 to 1933 he worked at the Vienna Volksoper, and in 1929 he began to settle in Copenhagen.
