Robbie Simpson (born March 15th 1985) is an English footballer, who currently plays for Coventry City.

Coventry City

Simpson joined the Sky Blues at the start of the 2007/08 season after a successful season with Conference side Cambridge United, whom he had joined only one season earlier from neighbourghs Cambridge City, scoring 17 goals in just 28 starts (although amazingly 15 of these goals came in the second half of the season).

Transfer

His big-money move to giants Coventry City was overshadowed however by his FA Transfer Triunal case. Although he was out of contract at The U's, as he was under 24 Cambridge United were permitted to recieve compensation for the player from Coventry if a transfer fee could not be agreed. After turning down offers of £20,000 and then £40,000 from the Sky Blues a tribunal date was set for 10th July 2007. The FA Transfer Board then agreed that Coventry's improved offer of £40,000 was fair and that was how much compensation must be paid. This fee could rise to £130,000 depending on the player's appearances for the Championship club. Also Cambridge will receive 5% of his sell on fee, if Coventry are to sell him in the future. Cambridge United were clearly dissapointed by this small amount of compensation.

Early Life

He began his footballing career with Norwich City at the age of nine as a schoolboy however soon joined Cambridge City and made his first team debut at just 16.
