Egisto Tango

Egisto Tango (born Rome Nov.13, 1873; died Copenhagen Oct. 5, 1951) was the conductor of several premieres by Bartok, including The Wooden Prince and Duke Bluebeard's Castle. His career was launched in Venice and he conducted at La Scala and the New York Metropolitan Opera before accepting the job at the Budapest National Opera (1913-1919). From 1925 to 1933 he worked at the Volksoper in Vienna; in 1929 he began to settle in Copenhagen.
