Talk:Mobile PCI Express Module
Removed claim that Apple is the first manufacturer to use MXM in a desktop since Shuttle use it in their X100 and that model has been available for quite a few months.

Failure
Nvidia just sell the chips for the MXM modules. The goal of MXM was not achieved because most of the main notebook manufactures uses a proprietary MXM standard. Nvidia wanted to make notebooks so upgradable as desktop computers. Notebook manufacturers would have to produce MXM graphic cards that would fit in any MXM slot. Although this is not the reality. Notebooks manufacturers would lose many millions of euros doing that because to upgrade a notebook the consumer would just have to replace the components and wouldn't buy a new notebook. This is so true that some manufacturers have their MXM modules soldered to the notebook motherboard. Even with the mxm non-proprietary slot the upgradability is never assured. If you consult the MXM page at Nvidia website they say MXM it's an upgradable standard. It's not. No one can go to a shop or order in the internet an mxm module to replace the notebook graphic card. There are some very few and very rare cases where this is possible and some does not use MXM non-proprietary slot. If you buy a notebook with a MXM symbol and you cannot replace the MXM module you can make a legal issue with the seller of that notebook.
