This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Projectileman (talk | contribs) at 23:23, 11 June 2007 (Bgoldman → GiveAnother123). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Redlands597198 → Redlands59719823

I think your string of numbers is becoming a bit random, sorry. Secretlondon 21:22, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine. •97198 talk 17:02, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Littlebum2002 → UL2006KevinB

I don't think this is offensive and you can keep it if you want. It's very minor, nothing to worry about. Secretlondon 21:50, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DuranDuran → DuranDuranInnuendo

This is still named after Duran Duran. Can you come up with something else? Secretlondon 16:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ndesai → Any

Asking for clarification as this isn't being requested by the username. 'Any' is also not useful. Secretlondon 22:39, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nimadesai → Any

Asking for clarification as this isn't being requested by the username. 'Any' is also not useful. Secretlondon 22:39, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Venatoreng → Venator

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. The Sunshine Man 19:38, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soundpro99 → Ccarfagno

But you've only been adding links to your company and making a spam article anyway. I'm not sure giving you a non promotional username is worth doing. Are you planning on contributing on anything else? Secretlondon 22:52, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stagetones → CompuServe

Please choose another name. You can't name yourself after CompuServe, sorry. Secretlondon 12:35, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
UbiqMail seems to be a Japanese email provider. Our username policy says that you cannot name yourself after something like a business or product as this is considered to be promotional. Secretlondon 22:41, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 19:37, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paul079 → Goodnewsfortheinsane

Clerk note: This username seems to be inflammatory, we'll see what a bureaucrat thinks. The Sunshine Man 19:28, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
User comment: Far be it from me to question the opinion of a respected WikiElf, but I fail to understand the reasoning behind this sentiment. If it's merely the inclusion of the word "Insane", I feel obviously compelled to point to the hundreds of other usernames which include this word. To be abundantly clear, I do not have any inflammatory intent with either my desired username or my contributions to Wikipedia. Should push come to shove I'd be more than willing to compromise, but I too would prefer to await a bureaucrat's appraisal. Paul079 22:11, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
