Basel thaler
The Thaler was the currency of the Swiss canton of Basel until 1798. It was subdivided into 30 Batzen, each of 4 Kreuzer or 8 Rappen. The currency was issued by both the Canton and Bishopric of Basel. It was replaced by the Frank of the Helvetian Republic in 1798. This was, in turn, replaced by the Basel Frank.

In 17th and 18th centuries the Canton issued Dopplethalers, Thalers, Halbe Thalers (1/2) and Viertel Thalers (1/4). The Drittel Thalers (1/3) were minted only in 1764 and 1766.
The Bistum (Bishopric) issued Thalers first time in 1596. The Bishop Wilhelm Pinck von Baldenstein )1608-1628) minted Thalers (1624-1625), Halbe Thaler (1625), Viertel Thaler (1623); Bishop Johann Konrad II. (1705-1737) issued Thalers in 1716, Viertel Thalers in 1717. These where last coin with this name issued by the Bishopric of Basel.
