Introduction

File hosting is the term used to describe a special form of web hosting, specificaly hosting static content.

There are two main categories of file hosts :

  • Software File Hosting
  • Personal File hosting


Software File Hosting

This service is aimed at software more specificaly shareware authors. The inheritent problem with free downloads is the huge bandwidth bill at the end of the month, to keep fees low shareware authors often use File hosts to host their Shareware / Trialware downloads, as file hosts buy bandwidth in bulk they can offer it at a very competitive rate. These hosts also offer additional services to the authors like statistics or other marketing gimmicks.


Personal File hosting

This service is aimed at the private individual, in this case the service offers a sort of Network Storage solution, privatees can upload their files and share them publicaly or passworded. The files themselves can be of any type, movies, videos etc.
