Citation cleanup
[edit]IT, I could help clean up and add sources and citations, but I hesitate to jump in yet; since you are checking each source as you work, my fear is that by bringing over a missing source, we'll get crosswise, and lose track of what you've checked and also have edit conflicts. Please let me know if/when source additions and citation cleanup are needed. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:58, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- @SandyGeorgia: That's very kind Sandy, thank you. The work I'm doing right now is, frankly, lazy. What I should be doing is bringing over the information that can definitely stay as-is / resummarising it. For the next day, I'm going to try and populate the second-last section of biography so we can get it closer to looking right.
- While reception has been positive I do expect some resistance to just merging the full thing instantly (i.e., I'm anticipating a bit of iteration) so please don't worry if you think anything resembling this complete mess is going into live. It's more of an expanded proof of concept, getting us closer to where we need to be. I want to merge this source list in, but I'm only adding sources if I've used them right now. Bear with me for a few more days – at least until there's draft content in every section. By next weekend is my goal, then post to Talk in w/c September 1. – ImaginesTigers 15:28, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Got it, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:38, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
Minor MOS-y stuff
[edit]Noting here to work on later:
- Joanne Rowling was born on 31 July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire ... When she was four, Rowling's family moved to Winterbourne, Gloucestershire,
- I can't recall where to find the guidance about when/whether to link Gloucestershire. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:22, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Nikkimaria knows this sort of thing ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:23, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- It's MOS:GEOLINK – ImaginesTigers 15:29, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yep. It shouldn't be linked separately; whether to link it as part of the smaller entity is disputed. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:03, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

- The FAR version used spaced WP:ENDASHes (although there were very few). This sandbox is mixing spaced WP:ENDASHes and WP:EMDASHes; which do you prefer ? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:37, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- I will autopilot to em dashes if I'm concentrating, but I've tried/failed to preserve the original when I remember. – ImaginesTigers 15:58, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think you have to preserve the original -- there weren't enough dashes to worry about -- if you are more comfortable writing with emdashes, I support the change. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:13, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

Commenting style
[edit]Are you comfortable with inline comments, or do you prefer all commentary on talk? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:21, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Talk would be good for these – I find comments really easy to miss. Being honest, though, this seems more like a "pass at the end" thing. You might've noticed I jumped around sections a lot (ADHD), which means this sort of consistency isn't very likely from me. I think it'd be better to leave that till down the line. The literary section in particular – there is just no prospect of getting that done consistently until at least there's text in every section.
- What would be really useful is merging the source list with the bibliography? Also, surfacing any sources hidden in comments would also be valuable. That way I can see what needs revisiting. There will be some sources where I think the material isn't worth including, but I still want to revisit those to see if there's something a previous editor might have missed. I'm happy with lots of "there is no citation on this page" errors – they're a good thing in this sandbox. Does that make sense? – ImaginesTigers 16:34, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sandy, I've played around with the family section – what do you think of the "Names and family" section I've put together? If it looks good to you, would you be interested in expanding this using the content I removed from J. K. Rowling? We probably have the opportunity to move some other content out of the biography, too, with this—for example, details of her marriage to Murray & their children. Let me know what you think. Sorry for my silence – past few days were busier with work stuff than I anticipated. – ImaginesTigers 10:33, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- My weekend was awful -- husband now the dog, sick too -- no sleep. What is there now looks good, except that as you mention, that structure now necessitates moving other bits in (at least for consistency). I would need to understand better where you're going with moving all of family to there. And it doesn't seem wise for me to take on much writing (particularly if I don't understand the structure), considering the amount of <stuff> that has already been hurled at me. The article needs to have one voice -- now yours -- and editing by committee apparently created some of the problems we're now criticized for ... meaning I'm more comfortable doing MOS-y things and cleaning up citations, then adding to the actual text. I'm worried that moving all of family to there will actually disturb the narrative, so I suspect you have a better idea of what you want to accomplish than I do ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:14, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to hear it Sandy. We had a death in the family this week too so it's been rough. Will get back to this by the weekend.
- Totally understand. I'll try a quick draft of #Names and family in the future and ask you what you think. In effect, it's like a cap-stone of "Personal life" that sits over top of her biography. But you might be right that it'd be disjointed. Ultimately I just want to fix the summary style issue, and a big paragraph on her mother is a bit much, but that could live in a dedicated section her family. I'll work with your feedback to get something that is structurally sound—if we need to keep it in the bio, we can find a place for it. Agree that it's weird to remove her marriage to Murray from the bio.
- I'll not be around to touch the article for at least a few days (likely Sat/Sun), so if you want to do some MOS Misthings now, the next few days you'd be able to avoid any chance of an edit conflict.
- On the edit-by-committee stuff: don't let criticism get to you (although I doubt it is). You were essentially in a restaurant with 10–15 other chefs where everyone was making a different meal. At random points some chefs left and were replaced with new chefs who also had a different view on what meal was being made. Mistakes are bound to happen, and AGF is vital.
- Take care with the life stuff and I hope to be back at full steam soon. Sorry for any delays and hope they don't cause problems at FAR. – ImaginesTigers 19:47, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
