Windows 12 is the speculated name for an upcoming major release of the Windows NT operating system developed by Microsoft. Microsoft has not officially announced Windows 12, and speculation and leaks suggesting it would be released in 2025[1] may have been referring to the 24H2 update to Windows 11,[2] which was based on a new platform and changed the system requirements.[3]
Development and rumors
At the Microsoft Ignite conference in 2022, glimpses of a revamped user interface with a floating taskbar and integrated widgets were showcased, potentially indicating a new direction for user interaction.[4][5]
During Build 2023, Microsoft executives discussed plans for the "next generation of Windows," underscoring anticipation for significant updates and innovations.[6]
