The list of programs is incomprehensible

[edit]

The list of programs needs some more structure, and perhaps be changed into a proper table. It is not evident what items are applications, frameworks, platforms, GUI toolkits etc. --HelgeStenstrom (talk) 17:47, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. See my comment below. Lbecque (talk) 09:32, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Totally agree with the above comment. Additionally, there are alternative processes such as Model View Controller and using Web template systems that accomplish the same thing more flexibly and powerfully for dynamic content. Can also integrate with Content Management Systems. Perhaps this article should be rewritten with an emphasis on how rather than list the multitude of tools. Create categories of 'how' ranging from simple GUI builder for a static page to more complex that deals with dynamic content and those with even more sophistication that build code and widgets. Then link to other Wikipedia pages that already mention many of these tools, applications, frameworks rather than try to duplicate them here. --Lbecque (talk) 09:30, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some existing Wikipedia pages that already cover some of these topics and list many tools that could be referenced to limit the duplication and effort to re-write this topic. Start with Website that mentions the types of sites and the 'See Also' links to Web template system, Web content management system, Web development, Web framework and finally Web development tools. This way you can concentrate on 'how' you would use these tools for the various types, categories or complexities of various sites and reference the existing Wikipedia articles. --Lbecque (talk) 10:04, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Addtionally, there is much more about the tools listed under Integrated development environment and Comparison of integrated development environments. What is missing that this article could accomplish is describing 'how' you would use some of these tools to build a certain type of website and what you may change to different tools for increasing complexity, tasks, types of sites, etc. --Lbecque (talk) 10:22, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

unrelated. RAD is mostly about component based building of application leveraging frameworks. Of course for GUI that touches designers somewhat, but only when based on a firm component footing and underlying framework. This can be easily noticed in that RAD tools e.g. typically also handle database in a component, drag-and-drop manner, e.g. like in Delphi with non-visual designer datamodules. Even services and daemons are driven by designtime principles there.
