Contentstack is a digital experience platform founded in 2018 by Nishant Patel and Neha Sampat in San Francisco, California.
Its primary offering is Contentstack EDGE, a fully composable, automation-driven platform integrating content management, customer data, personalization, and AI.
Contentstack is currently used by over 600 enterprise companies including Air France-KLM, Burberry, Mattel, Mitsubishi, and Walmart.
Contentstack was an early provider of headless content management system (CMS) technology when it launched as a standalone platform in 2018. Since then, the company has launched Care Without Compromise, the first cross-tech vendor customer service program, and becoming the first headless CMS provider to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT.[1] In 2025, Gartner recognized Contentstack as a Visionary in the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Digital Experience Platforms,[2] marking the first time a composable DXP made the report.
Now headquartered in Austin, Texas, Contentstack has over 500 employees worldwide and has raised $169 million to date.[3]
History
[edit]Prior to launching Contentstack, Patel and Sampat co-founded Raw Engineering in 2007, a consulting firm helping brands adopt cloud, SaaS, and mobile technologies.
In 2014, Raw Engineering released the Contentstack headless content management system (CMS). During this time, Patel and Sampat also co-founded the integration platform Built.io.
Following the acquisition of Built.io by the Software AG in 2018, [4] Sampat spun out Contentstack as an independent company. Contentstack later expanded its focus to composable digital experiences.
In 2019, Contentstack relocated its headquarters from San Francisco, California, to Austin, Texas, and secured $31.5 million in Series A funding to drive product innovation and market expansion.[5]
In 2020, Contentstack became a founding member of the MACH Alliance.[6]
In 2021, the company closed a $57.5 million Series B [7] round led by Insight Partners, with participation from Illuminate Ventures, GingerBread Capital, and Georgian.
In 2022, Contentstack raised an $80 million Series C round,[8] bringing its total funding to over $169 million.
In 2023, Contentstack expanded into the front-end hosting market[9] with the first fully composable and automated digital experience platform, covering both front-end and back-end operations. It also became the first headless CMS provider to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT. [10]
In 2025, Contentstack acquired the customer data platform Lytics.[11] Shortly after, it rebranded its platform as Contentstack EDGE. [12]

Additionally, Contentstack was featured in Forbes' America’s Best Startup Employers list in both 2024 and 2025.[15]
In analyst research, Contentstack was recognized as a Strong Performer in Forrester Research’s “The Forrester Wave™: Digital Experience Platforms, Q4 2023”[16] and “The Forrester Wave™: Content Management Systems, Q3 2023.” [17] In 2025, Contentstack was named a Visionary in the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Digital Experience Platforms.[18]
