Emanuel "Manny" Perlmutter was an American journalist & reporter. He was known principally for his organized crime & urban issues reporting in New York City, having been employed by the New York Times for over 40 years.[1]

Biography

Emanuel Perlmutter was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1908,[2] and began with the New York Times as a clerk in 1929, and was later assigned as a reporter attached to the NYPD in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.[3] Subsequently, he devoted a portion of his career to transit-oriented issues, contributing to the reporting on topics such as transit agency union negotiations, New York City agency budgets, and transit-centered criminal incidents.[4][5][6]

Other work

For a substantial time, Perlmutter also taught police and crime reporting at Long Island University.[7]

Death

Perlmutter died in Brooklyn on 2 February 1986, at the age of 78.[8]
