Official DC Index is a series of comic books released by Independent Comics Group (an imprint of Eclipse Comics) during the 1980s, which featured synopses of several DC Comics series. The books, edited by Murray Ward, would often feature background information on the main characters in a particular series, and detailed information on each issue, including writer and artist credits, characters who appeared in the issue, and a story synopsis. Due to poor sales, some series were cancelled before completion (the All-Star and Legion indices), and a planned Legends index[1] was never released. A similar series of indices was published by Marvel Comics.

The complete list of series is below:

  • The All-Star Index #1 (February, 1987) - Includes profiles of every member of the Justice Society of America, and synopses of the first four issues of All-Star Comics, as well as the Justice Society's origin from DC Special #29; this book contains very few synopses due to the large number of Justice Society profiles, and the series' cancellation prevented further issues from being indexed
  • The Official Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover Index #1 (July, 1986) - Includes brief synopses of all official (and a few unofficial) Crisis crossovers, as well as synopses of the major Earths in the Multiverse, a list of pre-Crisis Monitor appearances, a list of the characters who appeared in Crisis, and a Crisis flowchart; the information in this book was reprinted and revised in Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Absolute Edition
  • The Official Doom Patrol Index #1-2 (February, 1986) - Includes profiles of the Doom Patrol members and their supporting cast and villains, and synopses of every Doom Patrol story through their Showcase revival in the 1970s; both issues feature covers by John Byrne
  • The Official Hawkman Index #1-2 (November-December, 1986) - Includes every Silver Age Hawkman story through issue #6 of his regular series from the 1980s
  • The Official Justice League of America Index #1-8 (April, 1986-March, 1987) - Includes profiles of every Justice League member and synopses of all 261 issues (plus all 3 Annuals) of the first Justice League of America series; also includes synopses of the Justice League's initial appearances in Brave and the Bold, the Red Tornado mini-series, the Zatanna special from 1987, and several books which reprinted Justice League stories; the first two issues feature covers by George Pérez
  • The Official Legion of Super-Heroes Index #1-5 (December, 1986-May, 1987) - Includes profiles of almost every Legion member up to the time of publication, and synopses of every Legion story up through Action Comics #390 (July, 1970); the series was put on hiatus before further stories could be indexed
  • Millennium Index #1-2 (March, 1988) - Includes synopses of every issue of the Millennium mini-series, as well as every crossover
  • The Official Teen Titans Index #1-5 (August-December, 1985) - Includes profiles of every Titans member and synopses of every Teen Titans story up through issue #16 of the direct market New Teen Titans series; a sixth issue was in the works[2], but was never released
