Promod Kumar Chandhok (born 1952) is an independent statistical consultant. He was a Senior Mathematical Statistician with the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) before federal retirement. His areas of research are survey statistics, mathematical statistics, and transportation statistics. He is known for his leadership in getting the statistical community and the transportation research community to work more closely together. [1] [2] One of his BTS responsibilities was managing the BTS Grant Program. [3]

Chandhok also served as a Associate Professorial Lecturer and Professorial Lecturer at The George Washington University Department of Statistics and Computer Information Systems. He taught graduate and undergraduate courses in survey sampling and served on doctoral committees.[4][5] [6]

Education

Chandhok did his undergraduate work at the University of Lucknow, Lucknow, India. majoring in statistics, mathematics, and economics, and receiving a BA. He did masters-level work at the University of Lucknow, earning a MA with major in mathematical statistics, and also at Iowa State University, earning a MS with major in statistics. He did doctorate-level work at Iowa State University, obtaining a Ph.D. in statistics. His dissertation, supervised by Chien-Pai Han, was A study of the effects of measurement error in survey sampling. [7] [8]

Awards and Honors

Chandhok is an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. [10] He received the Wqashington Statistical Society President's Award for "long-term dedicated efforts as head science fair judge." in 2016. [11]

Editorial Review and Grant Management

Chandhok managed the "Grant Program for Research and Development in the Field of Transportation Statistics" for the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, reviewed grants proposals, and led grant review panels. [12] [13] [14]

Chandhok served as a reviewer for the Journal of Transportation and Statistics. [15]


Professional Activities

Chandhok was Chair of the Washington Statistical Society Social and Demographics Statistics Program 2007-2018 (Joint with J. Druitcour until 2017). [16]

He was Chief Washington Statistical Society Science Fair Judge for Prince George's County. [17]

Chandhok was a member of the Expert Task Group on the Analysis of the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study Data [18]
