MBM Port is a privately operated international seaport located in Porto Romano, Durrës, Albania. Specializing in the handling of oil, gas, and general cargo, it serves as a strategic logistics hub on the Adriatic Sea. The port is managed by Shoqëria Konçesionare Porti MBM (Multi Buoy Mooring) E.TH., under a long-term concession agreement.[1]

History

Established in 2019, MBM Port initially functioned exclusively as an oil and gas terminal. In 2021, it expanded its operations to include general and bulk cargo, transforming into a multipurpose port facility aligned with Albania’s growing role in regional trade.[2]

Facilities and Operations

MBM Port includes the following infrastructure:

  • Oil & Gas Terminal: Offshore CBM system for LR1 vessels up to 120,000 DWT and 20 m draft.[3]
  • Multipurpose Cargo Terminal: Operational since 2021 for handling bulk and general cargo.[4]
  • Pipeline Network: Connected to onshore tank farms with 24-inch and 12-inch pipelines.
  • Flow Capacity: Diesel – 2,000 m³/hr; Gasoline – 550 m³/hr; LPG – 500 m³/hr; Jet Fuel – 350 m³/hr; Crude Oil – 800 m³/hr; Bitumen – 350 m³/hr.[5]
  • Draft and Dimensions: Channel depth 11 m, safe draft 9.5 m, vessel LOA up to 230 m.[6]

Strategic Importance

MBM Port provides direct access to the Balkan trade corridor and is located near the Porto Romano Free Customs Zone. It facilitates trade for countries like North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Greece, Serbia, and Bulgaria.[7]

Connectivity

The port is well connected to Albania’s highway infrastructure. Offshore operations are linked to onshore facilities via underwater pipelines, and its proximity to the Durrës Industrial Zone supports efficient cargo distribution.[8]

Environmental and Safety Standards

MBM Port complies with international HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards, employing systems for fire safety, spill prevention, and environmental protection.[9]
