buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD) is a service provided by buildingSMART to offer standardized data dictionaries to describe special aspects of a planning. The structure of bSDD was also defined by buildingSMART.

Function

In May 2025 around 300 dictionaries are available, including IFC,[1] extensions to it such as Airport Domain IFC extension module[2] or claissification systems like Uniclass.[3]

The main structural parts of bSDD are:[4]

  • Class: A class describes the various object types, such as Bag drop[5] or Baggage conveyor[6] in airport planning. A class contains properties: .
  • Property: A property describes a part of a class, e.g. color or weight. Related properties are organized in a group:
  • GroupOfProperties: A group organizes related properties, e.g. environmental properties or electrical properties.
