| While using alternate accounts can be acceptable in some circumstances, using them to avoid scrutiny is considered sockpuppetry. While not binding, an editor who has been indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry will often be recommended the standard offer as a way to prove their good will before asking to be unblocked.
While some blocks for sockpuppetry can be reviewed by any administrator, others are placed by CheckUsers after reviewing technical information, and can only be lifted by another CheckUser having access to that information.
