Darwin! is the second studio album by Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and the second album they released in 1972. It was recorded and released in 1972 on the Ricordi label. The album is a concept album that covers Darwin's theory of evolution and the creation and development of Earth and it's species. The album was re-recorded in 1991 due to the band disliking the sound quality. [2]

The album is highly rated by progressive rock fans as one of the top albums in the genre.[3] The album currently stands at a 4.39 out 5 on the progressive rock database Prog Archives based on over 1000 ratings, over 50% of which gave 5 stars. [4]

Songs

[edit]

The album has a blend of progressive rock with jazz driven rhythms, with the keyboard work being similar to English progressive rock band Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. The extended works on the first side like L'evoluzione and La conquista della posizione eretta being the most complex of the songs. [5] 750000 anni fa...l'amore? Has a more operatic and classical atmosphere, with much of the song being just the piano and Giacomo's vocals.
