February 6 – Google announces Bard, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot powered by LaMDA.^[2]

May 30 – Hundreds of artificial intelligence experts and other notable figures sign the Statement on AI Risk: "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war."^[3]
