Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Cyberpear (talk | contribs) at 04:32, 29 April 2007 (Current requests). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

How is your email id revealed? =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:14, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If they told you that would that not reveal it more? At a guess, their username may be part of their current e-mail addy? Englishrose 22:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Firefoxman → FireFoxMan

Hmm. There's a User:FireFox as you mention on your user page. There's also the bit of the Username policy that says "..Match the name or trademark of a well-known company or group (especially if the user promotes it), unless the name is generic and could reasonably refer to something else.". I believe that both of you are referring to Mozilla Firefox, the web browser and therefore if that's not allowed, neither of you should be allowed. However as there is the similarity too - I'm not going to rename you to look slightly more similar. However I don't think I'm going to ask you to rename yourself either (unless people have strong feelings). At a brief glance you don't appear to editing articles that relate to Mozilla. Asteinhauser → AnnieRose

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. WjBscribe 12:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: This user has changed their request and now the requested username is available. --NickContact/Contribs 14:28, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

L141414 → L04

Not done I'm not going to rename you as you have very few edits and they are mostly vandalism - blanking talk pages etc. Secretlondon 17:07, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IanTheMacFan → Ian01

The logs say it exists which you can get by clicking on the name. this says it was created on 09:59, 10 April 2006. It meets the criteria for usurption as it hasn't made any edits. You can apply on the usurption page. Secretlondon 00:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done You need to either come up with a new name or apply for usurption. Secretlondon 11:29, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wil.holmes → Jeff Holmes

Reason for renaming is that current user name does not reflect the article accurately.

Not done It's not an article it's your userpage. I can see you are trying to use your userpage as an article about yourself. I suggest you look at Wikipedia:Userpage and Wikipedia:Autobiography for more details. Secretlondon 12:26, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Dpcelestine → Dustin Celestine

Not done Your userpage is not a suitable place for an article about yourself. Secretlondon 20:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thatguy69 → Drunkenmonkey

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. WjBscribe 23:21, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That name is not taken- adding a new template below. WjBscribe 16:04, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As you have a (minor) block history I'm going to leave this for the moment. Secretlondon 01:16, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT.Grammer → NEW.Grammar

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in to the account that will be renamed; this request was made by Staffwaterboy (talk · contribs). Please log in to the account that is to be renamed and confirm this request. Not sure what's going on here- the template is wrong and the rename has been requested by a completely different account... WjBscribe 22:52, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am making a grammar bot for wikiStaffwaterboy 00:46, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You need to be logged in to that account (ie User:CURRENT.Grammer) to request a change. We also like bots to have usernames ending in -bot. I also don't see how a grammar bot would work and people are generally against automated spelling bots. Secretlondon 01:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is a User:Grammer (who isn't you) and a User:Grammar who doesn't meet the criteria for usurption. Secretlondon 01:06, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Your bot seems to be at User:Grammerbot which presumably you want moving to User:Grammarbot. However I am not going to do so as:
We will never approve a bot for something as complicated as English grammar.
I don't have confidence that you could write a good bot anyway. You couldn't even get this template right.

So -  Not done Secretlondon 01:13, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedian64 → Game-uh Cube

By moving your userpages to the requested name you've just made things confusing and not actually changed your username. User:Game-uh Cube is still in breach of the username policy as it clearly refers to Game Cube and your username must not "Match the name of a well-known company or group". Could you come up with something else? Secretlondon 01:52, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grammerbot → Grandmotherbot

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. WjBscribe 14:10, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

grammarpolicebot or Grandmotherbot —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Grammerbot (talkcontribs).

OK, well "policebot" sounds a bit official so "Grandmotherbot"? I'll add the template below. WjBscribe 17:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What is this bot for? We are not approving a bot for the auto correction of English grammar, as I said before. We don't even approve bots for the auto correction of English spelling. Secretlondon 02:35, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Evilclown93 → Evilclown93

  • Current name: Evilclown93 (talk contribs)
  • Note: Even though the names look identical, I'm actually registered as evilclown93, and trying to see whether it can be officially Evilclown93. Evilclown93 17:07, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Requested name: Evilclown93 (change username)
  • Reason: When I registered my name, I didn't capitalise it. Even though it is automatically capitalised by Wikipedia, if you look, for example, at my editcount page, it is not capitalised. I contacted a bureaucrat a few weeks back (Nichalp), and he suggested that I try to file a request to see what the function can do. I prefer my name to be capitalised. Thanks in advance. Evilclown93 17:05, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done The tools don't co-operate, alas. It changes the capitalisation on the form so that I rename from Evilclown to Evilclown - and hence don't do anything. Sorry. Secretlondon 23:39, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Robinkarson → Lillianwhitney

I note you've only really edited an article about someone who has the same surname as yourself - Max Karson. Secretlondon 23:44, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
