Americo Garibaldi Ghersi was a Peruvian scientist known mainly for his extensive research and contributions in the study of cancer and malaria.
He presented a new theory on endocrine allergy to the Académie des Sciences, which was published in its bulletin.
Early life and education
Americo Garibaldi Ghersi was born in Ilo, a port city located in the department of Moquegua, southern Peru, on January 15th 1893.
He completed his higher education in 1913, at the Sorbonne University in Paris. He entered the Faculty of Medicine in Paris, in 1919, from where he graduated as a Bachelor of Medicine in 1923, with the thesis "Thyroid insufficiency and immunity", which won him the faculty's thesis medal.
Career
In 1923, Garibaldi began to work at the laboratory of experimental pathology of Georges Henri Roger, dean of the Faculty of Medicine; the experimental physiology research laboratory of professor Charles Richet; and the laboratory of experimental biology at the Collège de France.
