Americo Garibaldi Ghersi was a Peruvian oncologist, medical researcher, and writer known for his extensive research and contributions in the field of oncology. He was born in Ilo, a port city located in southern Peru, son of Gaetano Garibaldi and Rosa Ghersi. He completed his higher studies at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France in 1913. He later studied in the Faculty of Medicine in Paris in 1919, where he graduated as a Bachelor of Medicine in 1923 with the award-winning thesis "Thyroid insufficiency and immunity". He presented a new theory on endocrine allergy to the French Academy of Sciences, which was published in its bulletin.
