Windows Support Tool is a utility program for Microsoft Windows available from its installation CD or from backup tools provided with some Windows packages. It is generally used by administrators of larger systems, but it can be used by regular users.

The feature that is not specified in the Windows Registry article is that the program REG.EXE can be used from the command line. As such it is a dangerous tool that needs to be reserved for those occasions when a system needs a total re-build or other anomolies happen that may cause corruption of the registry files.

Typical problems appear when power failures occur, and / or hard drives get errors beyond what the error correcting code can compensate for.
