Wikipedia:Articles on sources

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Superb Owl (talk | contribs) at 17:40, 21 November 2024 (Sources without articles). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Wikipedia should ideally have, so far as its policies and guidelines allow, an article on every substantial publication that is likely to be used as a source for Wikipedia, and on the author and publisher of every such publication.

Why

Articles allow for a central summary of the source from other Wikipedia:reliable sources.

Source reliability falls on a spectrum: No source is 'always reliable' or 'always unreliable' for everything. However, some sources provide stronger or weaker support for a given statement. Editors must use their judgment to draw the line between usable and inappropriate sources for each statement.

Sources with little or no coverage on Wikipedia

What if Wikipedia does not have an article discussing a source? Editors who take any time to update those articles on sources are celebrated and very much appreciated by other Wikipedians for helping to broaden the knowledge base about sources, which are foundational to Wikipedia. It also helps editors to appreciate the spectrum of reliability.
