I'm blanking and redirecting this article to Data stream. The lede essentially describes Streaming XML as "streaming data that happens to follow a particular schema" as well as a short list of APIs. There is nothing, to the best of my knowledge, that makes streaming XML uniquely challenging compared to other data formats, like JSON or proprietary database formats.
