Note that this page is a work in progress... I've long meant to write a number of my thoughts out and it has to start somewhere. So, to start out, I'm just throwing some thoughts down as a starting point that I'll begin to expand on and reformat appropriately.

Draftification

  • Extremely useful tool
  • Alternative may be AfD, and that is WAY more WP:BITEy than moving an article to draft space
  • AfD = delete your work
  • Draftification = this needs some work
  • If a new user has their work deleted instead of being told that it needs to be improved upon, they're way more likely to leave the site
  • When you nominate a new user's article for deletion they have 7 days to try to learn our complicated to the layman notability guidelines.
  • By moving something to draft space instead we give people an opportunity to take their time and to develop as an editor, instead of immediately telling them they've wasted their time
  • Articles older than 90 days may be draftified, per community consensus
    • Old redirects converted to articles – The time that the draftification counter starts has never been clarified, but, I believe the reasonable interpretation is that when a redirect is converted to an article, the timer begins. A 3 year old redirect converted to an article should not be immune from draftificaiton because it was started from a redirect, even though the "article" itself would be newer. I have not received pushback on this and I've advised others of this line of thinking as well when the issue has come up.

Admin actions, just like edit count, are not necessarily representative of the work that an admin does, and they

  • Barkeep49 is my go to example of this. During their time as an arb they spent a LOT of time helping to guide discussions, provide valuable input on massive issues, and working towards transparency for the council. This was not reflected in any numerical value that shows up on xtools. To an outsider who only looks at admin stats, they may appear to have contributed as an admin less than I did in that time. That's bollocks, I could never do what they do/have done, and that's extremely difficult to quantify. I cannot say enough about how much more valuable they are to the site than I am, but that's not immediately obvious to some because I happen to process a lot of CSDs.
  • Closing discussions doesn't show up in the stat sheet
  • Deletions can be easy and can really boost the amount of actions you have, but unblocks are a much more difficult action. I have one unblock at the time of writing this.
  • Declined unblock requests are not counted in xtools admin stats

Everyone has their place on wiki, and every positive contribution is a step in the right direction

  • Don't force yourself into areas for others, do what you do best and explore other areas as you see fit
  • For example, good articles are not my place
  • Coaching the newest of users is not my place, that's not where I'm best utilized. I'm most valuable coaching and mentoring intermediate users and helping to guide them and answer questions.

Other:

  • I legit NEVER expected to be a coordinator for NPP, for featured lists, to be a mod on this discord, or to be an admin on en-wiki. Crazy things happen when you're always willing to do your best, listen to criticism, and to keep working at it.
