Yokai Samba is an upcoming animated martial arts adventure comedy film directed by Leo Matsuda (in his directorial debut), and screenplay by Mitch Watson. It is based on Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
Production
On April 11, 2018, it was announced that Leo Matsuda (director of award-winning 2016 Disney short Inner Workings) would write and direct Yokai Samba, a coming-of-age DreamWorks film based on the folklore of the same name.
Cancelled
The film was later permanently cancelled. On March 2, 2021, it was announced that Nickelodeon would instead develop the film.
Revival by Paramount Animation
In June 2024, it was announced that Paramount Animation was developing Yokai Samba, an animated feature based on a series of children's books by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
