The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit is an academic research organization within University College London. It is supported by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and is closely associated with the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour. It was founded in 1998 by Peter Dayan, Li Zhaoping, and Turing Award winner Geoffrey Hinton. The Gatsby Unit is known for its research in machine learning and theoretical neuroscience as well as the alumni and faculty who have variously held positions there. DeepMind was founded at the Gatsby Unit.
