Modh is an adjective often adopted in the surnames of Gujarati people who originate from Modhera in Gujarat.[1]

History

Many Hindu communities take their name from a town, such as Modh Brahmin, Modh Patel, Modh Modi and Modh [Sahu] and Modh Bania. Consequently, people of all castes may share the similar toponym, Modh.[2] Adhalja, Mandaliya, Madhukara, Modh Modi, Teli Modi, Champaneri Modi, and Prema Modi are all groups of Modh Vaniks. Modh farmers were known as Modh Patel.
