Iranian attack on Israel

On the night of the 13th April 2024 Iran attacked Israel during the war between Iran backed Hamas and Israel; At 23:00 Israel time, Iran launched dozens of Unmanned aerial vehicle toward targets in Israel.[1][2]

Iran was warned by the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany not to attack Israel and was warned such an attack would be a major escalation and could lead to a military response by the West against Iran.[3][4][5] Iran was warned by Israel that such an attack could lead to a direct Israeli military response on Iranian soil.[6]

Hamas, a militant organization backed by Iran and Qatar attacked southern Israel on October 7th 2023, leading to 1200 dead Israelis, and committed acts of sexual violence and massacres called crimes against humanity and war crimes by. [7]

Background

On October 7th 2023, Iranian and Qatari backed Hamas attacked Israel. It was the bloodiest day since the holocaust for the Jewish people.[8][9]. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in history in per capita terms and the third deadliest in sheer numbers.1200 Israelis were killed in massacres, including the massacre in the Re’im musical festival[10], the Be’eri massacre[11], Nir Oz massacre[12] and more.[13] On October 7th Hamas and other Palestinian militants committed acts of sexual and gender based violence against Israeli adults and children, according to professor Halperin-Kaddari, the sexual violence consisted crimes against humanity.[14][15][16] Hamas and other Palestinian militiant groups kidnapped 253 people, including Israelis, Argentinians, Americans, Europeans and Thais. Amongst the kidnapped were [17] Amongst the kidnapped were 39 children. [18]

Iranian backed proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon began attacking northern Israel after October 7th.[19] Hezbollah is considered to be more powerful than the Lebanese army and it says it has about 100,000 soldiers.[20] .There have been over 4400 violent incidents recorded between Hezbollah and Israel since the start of the war.[21] About 100,000 Israelis have been evacuated from northern Israel since the start of the war [22].

Iranian backed Houthis attacked Western shipping as a response to the war[23] . In response to Houthi piracy against shipping in the Red sea, the United States and the United Kingdom launched an operation against the Houthis in late 2023.[24][25]. Israel, following the October 7th attack, attacked Gaza with the aim of destroying Hamas. Israel said it killed 13,000 Hamas fighters.[26] Total casualties in the war according to the Hamas backed Gaza Health Ministry exceeding 33,000. [27].Despite humanitarian aid convoys, due to United Nations difficulties in logistics and Hamas control of humanitarian reception points, the UN warned of the danger of famine. [28] In early April 2024, Israel attacked a building next to the Iranian embassy, killing the head of the Iranian revolutionary guard in Syria, in order to prevent an Iranian backed attack against Israel. Iran claimed the building was part of the embassy compound, Israel maintained it was a building used by the Iranian revolutionary guard and outside the fenced compound of the embassy. [29][30]

Western warnings to Iran

The Islamic Republic of Iran was warned in the weeks preceding the attack by the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany not to attack Israel and was warned such an attack would be a major escalation and could lead to a military response by the West against Iran.[31][32][33] Iran was warned by Israel that such an attack could lead to a direct Israeli military response on Iranian soil. [34]

Iran in early April 2024, threatened to attack United States military bases if it intervened and defended Israel.[35][36]

Events

On the 13th of April, Iran boarded the MCS Aries, an Israeli Portuguese ship, an act described by the Israeli foreign minister as an act of piracy.[37] In the night of April 13th, the United States reported that dozens of Unmaned aircraft were launched against Israel by Iran.[38]
