In digital transmission, introduction of redundancy in both space (by using multiple antennas), and time. The redundancy that is introduced can also be coding. Hence, to do space time coding, signals transmitted from different antennas at different times would be redundantly coded to protect from random errors that could occur due to the propagation channel.
