Code 8: Part II is a 2024 Canadian science fiction action film[1] serving as a sequel to the 2019 film Code 8. Directed by Jeff Chan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe, the film will have Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell reprise their roles as Connor Reed and Garrett Kelton from the original film. Sirena Gulamgaus, Altair Vincent, Alex Mallari Jr., Moe Jeudy-Lamour, Aaron Abrams, and Jean Yoon also star.

Code 8: Part II was released on Netflix on February 28, 2024.

Premise

The film centers around the 4% of people living in fictional Lincoln City who possess special abilities. It follows the journey of a teenage girl fighting to get justice for her slain brother at the hands of corrupt police officers. After becoming a witness to the cover-up, she becomes a target and enlists the help of an ex-con and his former partner-in-crime.

Cast

Production

The film is a sequel to the 2019 film Code 8. On June 1, 2021, it was announced Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell would produce the sequel and reprise their roles from the original film.[2] On June 14, Ted Sarandos announced Netflix had acquired the rights to the feature film.[3] Filming was scheduled to begin in Toronto in October 2021.[4] Cast members confirmed filming had begun in November 2021, with Amell teasing the possibility of Code 8: Part III.[5]

Release

Code 8: Part II was released on Netflix on February 28, 2024.[6]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 75% of 8 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.4/10.[7]

Marya E. Gates of RogerEbert.com gave the film two and a half out of four stars and wrote, "Unfortunately, where the first film found a healthy balance between its heist plot and the human moments between Connor and his mother, Part II can't seem to find the time to actually sit with these characters so that we care about them and the lives they are trying to lead in spite of all this heavy policing. Every conversation is in service of another plot point here, a piece of exposition there. The brothers do their best to add depth to the proceedings but are just not given enough time to let their characters breathe."[8]
